Module 2

Create Your First Wallet

Wallet setup is the first operational skill in Web3. This lesson shows the safest beginner workflow and what mistakes to avoid before you move any funds.

Level: Beginner Estimated Time: 20 minutes Outcome: Secure wallet setup

Learning Objectives

You will understand seed phrases, private keys, wallet recovery, and safe first transactions using reputable wallet providers.

What a Wallet Actually Does

A wallet does not store coins directly. It stores or manages cryptographic keys that authorize transactions from your address on a blockchain.

  • Public address: share this to receive assets
  • Private key: controls spending authority
  • Seed phrase: backup that can regenerate keys
Critical rule: anyone with your seed phrase can take your assets. Never share it in chat, email, screenshots, or cloud notes.

Recommended Beginner Wallets

  • MetaMask: broad Ethereum and EVM ecosystem support
  • Phantom: strong Solana user experience
  • Trust Wallet: multi-chain mobile-first option

Always install wallets from official websites and verify browser extension publishers before installing.

Safe Setup Workflow

  1. Install wallet only from official source.
  2. Create a new wallet and strong local password.
  3. Write recovery phrase on paper and store offline.
  4. Verify backup phrase when prompted.
  5. Enable lock timer and device security features.
  6. Send a tiny test transaction before larger transfers.

Security Checklist Before Funding
